Statement on Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Chris Gibbs, Ohio farmer and Board President of Rural Voices USA, the nationwide network of farmers and rural community leaders, released the following statement on passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a bill that includes historic investments in rural areas. The bill has passed both houses of Congress and will be signed into law by President Biden. “This bill is a long-term investment in the health and strength of rural America. It makes the biggest investment in climate-smart agriculture that farmers and ranchers have ever seen while also investing in innovative rural energy projects. Importantly, it also invests in building out biofuels infrastructure to help support farmers and bring down fuel costs. These biofuel investments will mean more ethanol pumps and reduced dependence on foreign oil. "If we are going to address the monumental climate challenges we face, rural America must be a big part of the solution. This bill is an historic step in pursuing rural climate solutions that make economic sense for rural communities.”

  • $500 million for biofuels infrastructure

  • $8.45 billion for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program

  • $6.75 billion for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program

  • $1.4 billion for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program

  • $9.7 billion for renewable energy projects

  • $1.965 billion for the Rural Energy for America Program

  • $1 billion for loans for renewable energy electricity generation

  • $4 billion for drought resilience
