(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Chris Gibbs, President of Rural Voices USA, a leading national non-profit that organizes rural Americans to advocate, communicate, and hold policy makers accountable for rural issues, released a statement of support for Margo Schlanger, the nominee for Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “Last year we were pleased to see President Biden nominate Margo Schlanger to serve as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Given her experience and careerlong commitment to civil rights and public service, Professor Schlanger will be critical in ensuring that USDA programs are accessible to all and treat everyone in our rural communities fairly. We call on Senate Majority Leader Schumer to bring her nomination up for a floor vote during the lame duck session of Congress. Too many of President Biden’s nominees have been held up. It’s time we put a full team on the field – America’s farmers, ranchers, families and rural communities deserve no less.”
